True Freedom

Read Psalms 79:1 through 86:17

Sing for joy to God our strength; shout aloud to the God of Jacob! Begin the music, strike the tambourine, play the melodious harp and lyre (Psalm 81:1,2).

Many festivals were held by the people of Israel to celebrate and remember what God had done for them. Whether it was Passover, the Jewish New Year, the Feast of Tabernacles, or another celebration, these were important times for the people of Israel. It caused them to stop their daily lives to remember what God had done and focus their attention on Him.

Today is July 4th, when Americans commemorate the birthday of the United States. Although the country is not without its problems, it has many freedoms and a prosperity that other lands do not have. One of the greatest of these is the freedom to worship God without fear of persecution.

As Christians we can also be thankful for a freedom within. We have experienced the ultimate freedom through the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has redeemed us to someday live in heaven where there will be no poverty, no wars, and eternal peace.

Thought for Today: Be thankful for your freedoms.
